This Sunday the Langho U15 girls played Barrowford Celtic, a match postponed from 2 weeks ago. Due to all the waterlogged pitches the game was played on a shortened seniors pitch at the Rydings. The girls started very strongly with the ball rarely making it out of the opposition half for the first 10 minutes and Annie broke the deadlock early on then Iola was brought down in the box which Katie converted calmly from the spot for a 2-0 lead. The away team keeper was denying lots of Langho chances and Misty had a good effort saved on the line. The game drifted for a while before Annie doubled her tally. In defence, Laura and Bella largely cleared most threats up with Hazel acting as a sweeper keeping the ball well away from danger.
A pass round of chocolates at halftime and a swap of keeper with Hazel playing out and Katie going in and the girls were off again. The girls continued to dominate, but Barrowford were putting more pressure on the defence as the Langho team substitutions continued to cycle. Annie then reached her hat-trick. Laura, Amelia, Hazel and Annie passed beautifully through the away team’s defence on a range of occasions, but after Katie made a save from Barrowfords best shot, the away team got a conciliation giving a final score of 4-1.
Today was all about the whole team playing for as long as possible with 3 rolling substitutes and girls playing in a range of positions; some less familiar. The girls played really well again and their passing was coming back on form. Amelia was voted man-of-the-match for Langho and the away team keeper got the vote of our girls for many brave and effective saves. The girls are away at Myerscough next Sunday.
This Sunday a full squad of 14 Langho U15 girls took on Hesketh Colts in the league cup quarter-final at Northcote. The team warmly welcomed the debuts of Bella and Ella plus Amelia back from injury. The opposition were known to be doing very well in the West division of the league and had 3 Merseyside county players so this was always going to be a tough ask.
Hesketh proved to be a strong team and pushed Langho back forcing some great saves out of Hazel as she demonstrated true command of her box. Laura and Bella defended robustly and with confidence and Amelia and Katie wheeled in with some good support for their back line. Langho pushed forward with Charlotte boldly leading from the front and Iola and Annie down the wings. Amelia broke the deadlock in a great break and the girls hung onto the lead for some time before Hesketh equalised. More cut and thrust and after bringing Amber for Freya at the back and Charley for Charlotte, then Ella for the workhorse Iola, Annie scored a scorcher from the right to leave Langho 2-1 up at halftime and the coaches feeling so proud of the team (Tony was bouncing – think he must have raided the Trick or Treat box).
The away team came out with a more attacking lineout after the restart, and Hazel had gone out on the left with Katie going in between the sticks. Misty came on at right back and made some important clearances, but Hesketh scored a well worked goal down their left and then took the lead from a lob. Amelia put a great pass through for Annie to run onto, but the attempt went wide. After Langho failing to clear, the away scored a soft goal. Hazel jinked a few players and put Charlotte into a fantastic position with a run 1-on-1 with the keeper, but sadly the keeper stood up well and it was saved. The girls battled on with Rebecca at left back making her mark. Hesketh scored a final time to leave a final score of 2-5.
The whole team stepped up today and they have been laughing and joking throughout; well especially when the linesman landed with a splash sideways in a puddle at the corner of the pitch to rival Garry’s legendary Mud Angel last season! There were some great individual performances, but the team spirit was the best I ever have seen so far with the U15 team: The team photo says it all! So, well done again girls. Barrowford Celtic at home next Sunday postponed from last week.

This Sunday the Langho U15 girls took on AFC Darwen at Northcote on a bright but chilly afternoon. The game was end to end with Langho looking particularly dangerous, with Iola surging down the left and Katie behind Charlotte in midfield. Katie proved a handful for the away team, despite their size and hit a great dipping shot from well outside the box into the top corner for 1-0. Hazel looked really solid as usual in net from corners and open play and Laura mopped up gaps down the wings with Freya and robust support from Amber and later Misty and Rebecca playing her part holding up a break and clearing well to the side line. Darwen fought on, but despite a number of fantastic chances for Langho and Annie ‘megs’ 2 players and then a further 2 more before pushing the ball wide of the sticks, the away team equalised before the break; 1-1.
A swap of Katie for Hazel in net and a few other shuffles saw a determined Langho quick out of the blocks. Hazel surged through the defence from the right and unselfishly squared the ball past the keeper to Charley who had moved into the perfect position and hit the ball home for a 2-1 lead. Hazel was brought down on the edge of the box for a free kick, which she flighted over the wall and dipped narrowly over the bar. Charlotte opened her Langho account with a third and Annie followed in her parried shot skilfully burying the rebound. Iola seemed to be doing everything today (but unluckily score) and we saw headers from Charlotte, Iola and particularly Hazel and Katie (in the 1st half). Laura strode forward from defence running half the length of the pitch, but sadly the team could not make that attack count. Another great cross saw Misty wonderfully volley home her first this season. Hazel this week seemed again to be magnetically attracting late challenges throughout the half and was brought down yet again at the edge of the box for a final free kick before the whistle. The free kick was well saved by the Darwen keeper.
Great result today in a hard game and brilliant to see goals from 5 of the 11 players, with only Annie having scored before: Charley’s first league goal for the team too. A real team performance today without our central midfielder Amelia with leg muscle strains. Great to see her turn up to support her teammates even though she spent the game (rightly) correcting names of my shouts to congratulate individual player’s efforts – too many brown pony tails for me to cope with! Barrowford at home next Sunday.
Saturday morning meant a depleted team of eight U15 Langho girls travelled to Wigan Athletic. Disapprovingly our hosts thought it appropriate to play 9v8 from the off. It still seems some teams or coaches desire to win trumps following LFA and League fair play guidelines even when appeals are made to conform the same week. None-the-less Langho battled bravely but the extra player and their speed down the flanks meant a lot of pressure down the wings which led to a 5-0 at half time.
Rather than give up, the girls came out more on the attack in the second half with Katie coming out to join Hazel out field and Misty bravely went between the sticks. With Wigan now having dropped to 8, the game became closer to the match it should have been. Laura surged forward with Katie filling in for her. Hazel looked very dangerous, Charlotte, Katie and Iola came close, forced saves and won corners. Misty made some saves herself and Charley and Amber with their teammates held Wigan at bay until finally the home team scored for a last time. Langho boldly battled on against ‘physical’ tactics until the final whistle.
Very proud of our U15 girls team today: When playing on a level playing field, even with key players away and injured, the girls held their own and should be able to reverse the result when they visit later in the season.
The next 3 weeks see a run of home fixtures against AFC Darwen, Barrowford and then a cup fixture against Hesketh Colts all on Sunday afternoons for the U15 girls. The team is still looking for a couple of extra players. All welcome from Year 9 and Year 10. Please contact Steve on 07780-993286.
Today the Langho U13 took on Cadley at home at Northcote over lunchtime today with Juliet making her debut. She marked this with her first goal for the team and despite lots of effort and impressively clawed their way back from 3-0 down to commendably lose 4-2.
The Langho U12 girls played St Annes at home at the Rydings. Despite a warm-up thumb injury to Emily ruling her out of playing in net, the team surged to a 6-3 win making 4 wins and 2 losses this season and an even happier Jason! This is a great team with buckets of team spirit across the squad.
The Langho U10 girls were away at Cadley and marked the occasion with their first match goal of the season by Keisha and prompted and explosion of joy over the parents’ WhatsApp! Well done girls!
New girls continue to come down to training at the Rydings on Friday nights to the club’s floodlight 3G to see if they enjoy it as girls football continues to grow nationally and locally. Week by week new girls are joining Langho FC which is great to see; all with smiles on their faces.
Another sunny Sunday afternoon at Northcote saw Mighty Langho U15 girls host Burnley, an academy team in all but name. Langho had 1 sub with 2 girls nursing injuries for this 9v9 match against the visitors with 6 subs; so a real challenge which as usual the girls were up for!
The game kicked off and Burnley attacked from the off but Langho returned the compliment. The game was tight but Burnley went ahead from a corner. Hazel put in some great saves and kicks and distribution from the net. Laura’s covering support was superb in defence although, the left and right backs appeared vulnerable today. Langho hit the away team on the break with Amelia smashing one right across the face of the Burnley goal. A foul in the box on Katie gave Langho a penalty which Annie bravely stepped forward to take: Their keeper made the save but Annie followed through and buried the rebound for 1-1. Hazel plucked some corners out of the air and continued to impress the opposition. She made a fantastic dive to deflect a terrific shot, but a well drilled Burnley put it in at the far post. Amelia came off to rest her injury and Langho, although battling on, lost their central midfield shape and defensive edge so shipped 3 goals in 10minutes. None-the-less Iola was having her best ever game on the left as she really threw herself into the tie.
To add some extra teeth to the attack Hazel came out to play down the left, Iola upfront and Misty moved in front of defence as Katie went into the net. Amelia bravely came back on again. The girls looked more settled and Hazel piled her way through to pull a goal back. A swap of Laura and Amelia to rest her from so much running, saw Hazel smash home her second goal heralding the team’s never say die spirit and Katie made several good saves the other end. Laura put one over the bar and one wide then Hazel was brought down well outside the box. She launched her dipping shot over the 3-girl wall but the keeper held it. Annie continued to surge and battle down the right and Iola had some chances too. A defensive mistake gave Burnley their sixth, but Laura unleashed a shot from distance into the top left hand corner for her wonderful first goal of the season to rack up Langho’s 4th.
So a final score of 4-6 and comments from the Burnley manager that this was their hardest match of the season for them. Both Amelia and Rebecca were nursing injuries so this was another match where the girls showed brilliant commitment, fitness team spirit against 6 rolling subs. They were the better team in the second half too. Amazingly proud of all the Langho girls in the U15s. So bring on Wigan Athletic next Saturday! (when I get the day right – thanks Tony).
A second fixture for the new Langho U10 girls team hosting Clitheroe Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
A happy Langho U10 Girls Team
The girls made a determined and battling performance as they learn to play on the 7v7 pitch as a team and different people take their turn in bravely goal with Kiesha and Isabel showing some good signs. Rosie, and Evie M and Edith all looked particularly impressive with some surging runs against a well organised opposition, but the whole team played its part. Smiles all round from this happy team. Well done girls!
Thanks to Mick again as another young girls team come together and gel at Langho. With the numbers of girls growing week by week, the club, team and younger girls Development Squad are looking for some helpers and parents to step forward, even on a rota, at training on Friday night training and perhaps even take their FA Level 1 coaching badge funded by the club. Please contact Steve Jenkins at training or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more details.
A bright but really early start in Fulwood for the Langho U12 girls at Cadley this Sunday. A nice welcome from the home parents, then from the whistle we saw Cadley make the first attack. Jade pulled Langho ahead and then doubled the lead a while later. Both Cadley’s keeper and Charlotte W were kept busy in the nets at either end. She made a vital clearance as the ball was loose at the edge of the box. More cut and thrust from both teams, then the home team pulled one back then equalised for 2-2. Jade’s cross was narrowly put narrowly wide from the edge of the Cadley box by Eva. Jade reached her hat-trick from a surging break, before it was all square again as the Langho defence were feeling the effects of a birthday sleepover! Jade then converted another for a 4-3 lead at the break.
Most of Langho U12 girls before a corker of a match at Cadley
Fired up by a round of Smarties and with a change of keeper to Emily the girls sprang into action again. Issy chipped Langho into a 5-3 lead, before Cadley clawed back another 2 making it 5-5. There seemed to be no end to the twists and turns of this thrilling game. Charlotte J had a shot saved, but Jade hungrily buried the rebound. Emily made a crucial save with her knees in a 1 on 1, then Jade racked up her sixth for 7-5. Could this be the end? – Oh no! 7-6 then 7-7 as Cadley fought back again. ‘They think its all over…. It is now’ as Lillie made it 8-7 to Langho in the dying minutes.
Again battling performances from Aleasia and Charlotte J plus several piecing runs and crucial saving tackles from Heather with Fran making some timely clearances too. This was an amazing match to watch; with a score line like watching a Wimbledon tiebreak. Well done girls!
