England Leaders Explain Four Steps to Safeguarding and Safeguarding at Langho FC

As part of The FA’s role in aiming to do everything it can to support a safe and enjoyable framework for football, a new film has been made outlining the four key steps to safeguarding.

The film, featuring Wayne Rooney, Steph Houghton, Jack Rutter and Nathaniel Chalobah, explains how both parents and children can raise concerns they have about adults working in football and centred around how the 8,500 safeguarding officers working across England football take the following four steps:

  1. Checked – to ensure adults are suitable to work with youngsters
  2. Trained – from coaches to referees, all are given suitable safeguarding training.
  3. Hear – concerns from both children and adults will be listened to 4.
  4. Report – the importance of raising concerns about a child’s welfare

Following these simple but crucial steps means that there is a framework in place to ensure that, if standards ever fall short with poor practice or unacceptable behaviour, they can be addressed.

The film can be accessed and watched by following the below link:-

Langho U11 and U13 Girls at St Annes Tournament 22 May

In May the U11 girls and a Langho U13 girls team, taken from the younger U14s and the U12s, travelled to the St Annes tournament. For both squads this was their first ever tournaments.

Langho U11 girls at St Annes Tournament

The U11 girls in their group they beat Academy 1-0 and Cadley 2-1, before drawing with Burnley Girls 2-2 and St Annes 2-2 to jointly top their group. They then met an imposing team in the quarter final and the girls gallantly bowed out.  The team of Aleasia, Jade, 2 Charlottes, Heather, Lillie, Emily and Issy played fantastically.  The team has come so incredibly far in their first season since the early results.  Well done girls!

The U13 girls, specially formed only for the tournament, started really well beating St Annes with a goal from Katie having brought on Chloe into defence which helped spread the game out and push the opposition back. Hazel scored against both Cadley and Haslingden to secure their third straight 1-0 victory. A draw against Fillies guaranteed progress to the final stages and Fife beat the girls in the final fixture with freak goal.  Langho won the 6-team group and secured a bye to the semi-finals. They faced the daunting prospect of Bootle, the stand-out team who, in the semi, knocked out Burnley Girls and were full of Liverpool Academy players.  Langho held their nerve and all the girls bravely battled well with standout performances from Katie and Hazel plus Bailey between the sticks and Amber in the gritty mix on the goal-line.  The girls were only 1-0 down at halftime and after conceding another goal Hazel was brought down outside the box.  She launched a curling shot over the wall, but didn’t quite dip enough to sneak in under the bar.  This was the team’s best performance and they all should be justifiably proud of what they achieved at St Annes.

The day was really enjoyable with footie stalls, a bouncy castle, Langho colours daubed on many of the smiling girls’ faces and great company all round. Dive of the day came from Claire off one of Hazel’s practice crosses knocking her off her clean off feet.  Sorry Claire!  Thanks also go to St Annes for organising a superb tournament on a lovely sunny seaside day.

Langho U14 Girls 15-0 Myerscough

Sunday’s Langho U14 girls was a 7-a-side friendly on the Langho 3G pitch against Myerscough. The match was played in quarters to allow the away team rest against a home squad of 10.  Langho positions and subs were rotated in 3s with 10 minute intervals to give all the girls equal playing time and a fair shout in attack and defence.  Hazel and Katie shared halves in the net and both kept clean sheets as well as both getting on the score sheet. Amelia played fantastically in front of the back 2 and scored 5, Laura a hat trick, Annie 2 and Issy, Amy and Misty all notched up one each.  The girls passed brilliantly again and the performance was great across the team after all the weather interruptions this season.

The U14 girls completed an unbeaten day for all the 3 Langho girls teams in action with the U11 girls achieving a milestone first league win too. A great day for girls football at the Rydings.  Thanks too for Dawn running the tuck shop supplying well needed hot drinks and helping the clubs coffers.

Dances with Wolves

A misty start with a definite Winter nip in the air for the 11:15 kick off at the Rydings between Langho under 11’s and Clitheroe Wolves.
Harrison was back following a long recovery from a shin injury, but Connor was only to make a brief appearance due to a sickness bug.
It was a cagey start, and the chances Langho got were comprehensively dealt with by the Wolves keeper. It was looking like being a frustrating morning until Finn broke through on the right and slotted home in the bottom corner. Soon after came Finn’s second, which was quite bizarre. A looping shot from just inside the Wolves half dropped into the net to a completely stunned silence!!
Cross or shot ? – they all count! Langho played some lovely passing football in spells, with Max and Sasi dancing through the Wolves, and some strong work from Sean and Theo in midfield. A well taken Wolves free-kick found Thomas’s net frustratingly, as yet again Tom’s one on one shot stopping had been faultless. Individual well taken goals from Harrison and Theo saw us 4-1 to the good at half time.
The second half was much closer. Will and Jack were tenacious at the back, and Sasi worked tirelessly up and down. Sean and Meechai began to click as a dangerous partnership. A lovely run and cross from Meechai found Sean in the box and we were cruising. The Wolves nicked a goal from a well-constructed move, but a second goal from Sean saw Langho run out 6-2 winners. The Wolves were tamed!

Langho FC Sportsmanship Award

Langho FC have been awarded the East Lancs Football League 2014/15 Sportsmanship Award.

Whilst results for both 1st and Reserve teams were not all that they had hoped for this award reflects that both teams played the game in the sporting manner which our club in both senior and junior sections is renowned and respected for in the various leagues in which it competes.
