On Sunday our recently formed Vets team,¬†some of whom are not exactly what you would describe as being perfectly formed,¬†under the management of Paul Isherwood and Mel Grime played the second pool game of the Umbro over 40’s Cup. Despite having the majority of possession, in a fiercly contested game they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Burnley Miners who have been established for a number of years. However if the atmosphere in the club house is anything to judge by the lads were far from dispirited and remain positive as they look forward to welcoming Harrogate Town Vets, early in January at the Rydings, who have several well known ex premier league players in their ranks.

Thanks to Lucy Isherwood and friends who provided after match refreshments, spud pie and hot dogs for the kids, to both players and supporters which were well received and rounded of another great afternoon for Langho FC.

On Saturday the Reserves lost to Burnley Grammar School Old Boys 4-1, after going conceding 4 early goals the lads didn’t buckle and fought hard to get back into the game, however despite their efforts they could only manage 1 goal in reply.

East Lancs League Presidents Cup 1st Round. The 1st team progressed through to round 2 after a convincing win 4-0 against Colne Utd. Langho were quickly into their stride and took the lead when Jimmy Tyldesley brilliantly improvised to curl a diving header into the corner of the net. Despite Langho continuing to control the game the tie remained in the balance at 1-0 at half time. Colne belaying their league position upped their work rate at the start of the second half and applied pressure on the home defence, however after Colne failed to score from an excellent opportunity the wake up call was heeded and Langho reasserted control. A cool finish from the edge of the penatly area by Tommy Sharples who managed to thread the ball through a melee of players gave Langho the impetus to finish the game comfortable winners as Matt Bagott coolly rounded the keeper for Langho’s third goal and rounded of an excellent move by heading the fourth goal.

The reserves recorded their first consecutive wins of the season by defeating Colne 6-3 at Holt House. Goals from Ste Caton (2), Sean Mansfield, Luke Jarrold, Joe Thompson and Ste Mason.

On Sunday the newly formed veterans team made their debut in the FA Umbro Veterans Cup with a group stage game away to ColneFC. A good perfomance didn’t however produce the result that it deserved as Colne ran out 3-1 winners.
