U13 Girls – Euxton v Langho (League Cup)

After a slow start to the season for Langho U13s girls they have been improving every week and are on an unbeaten three match run as they visited Euxton in the cup. When the two teams met in October it was a 7-0 victory for Euxton. Recent new signing Brooke was making her debut in the noon kick off. After recent rain the pitch was heavy so it was going to be an energy sapping day for the girls.

After an even start to the game where both sides created chances Euxton took the lead. However, Langho continued to get shots on goal with Juliet and Brooke both going close. Somewhat slightly against the run of play Euxton doubled their lead. It wasn’t long before Langho hauled themselves back into the game with a great solo goal by Niamh who ran down the left wing before cutting inside into the penalty area and firing into the roof of the net. The score remained 2-1 to Euxton at half time but at this point Euxton knew they were in a game.

The second half started with Langho causing problems for the Euxton defence and the Euxton keeper who was playing a great sweeper keeper role called into action on a number of occasions. However, it was long before Juliet with her electric pace latched onto a through ball before knocking it under the advancing keeper to make it 2-2. It was now anybody’s game, Bailey in goal and the defensive trio of Chloe, Lexie and Olivia were proving very difficult to break down. Alice, Scarlett, Niamh and Amelia were covering every blade of grass in midfield to support the attackers and provide cover for the defenders. However, neither team could get that winning goal and the tie finished 2-2 at the end of normal time.

The game went into 5 minutes each way extra time with both teams creating chances, but again the scored remained at 2-2. The game would now be decided by a nail biting penalty shootout. The girls had practised penalties at the end of Friday’s training session so were slightly prepared. The penalty shootout was as nerve wracking as the rest of the game with Euxton edging it 3-2.

This was an amazing contest and a great advert for girls’ football. The Langho girls should be incredibly proud of their performance and the improvements they are showing each week. The Euxton manager’s text said it all “All credit to your girls, they have improved immensely since we last met. If it wasn’t for our sweeper keeper, I think it would have been a different result”.

U13 Girls Langho 3-1 Whitworth Valley – Points Reward

The first girls game last Sunday at Northcote saw the Langho U13 girls, still lacking their keeper Bailey from injury with Amelia again stepping in, take on Whitworth Valley. Despite playing well this season, they have been unlucky not to get a point.  Would today be the turning point?

The girls all played well with big contributions and threats down the wings from Niamh and, bravely stepping up an age group and coping, Charlotte. There was battling all over the pitch including in defence from Danielle, Olivia and particularly Chloe clearing up at the back.  Alice skilfully played a massive key role and Lexie played a blinder at both ends of the pitch.  Juliette took on the defence with her efforts rewarded with a goal.  Alice scored a corker of a free kick and Niamh made a third whilst the team only conceded a single goal when the away team drew level for a period.

The girls achieved their first, and deserved, win of the season; 3-1 and brought smiles to the Coaches James and Tony together with the faithful parent posse! Well done girls:  Patience is rewarded.

The team is still looking for a couple more players.  Contact Langho Girls or come along free to Friday training if you are interested.

Langho Girls – U13, U12 and U10 Matches

Today the Langho U13 took on Cadley at home at Northcote over lunchtime today with Juliet making her debut. She marked this with her first goal for the team and despite lots of effort and impressively clawed their way back from 3-0 down to commendably lose 4-2.

The Langho U12 girls played St Annes at home at the Rydings. Despite a warm-up thumb injury to Emily ruling her out of playing in net, the team surged to a 6-3 win making 4 wins and 2 losses this season and an even happier Jason!  This is a great team with buckets of team spirit across the squad.

The Langho U10 girls were away at Cadley and marked the occasion with their first match goal of the season by Keisha and prompted and explosion of joy over the parents’ WhatsApp! Well done girls!

New girls continue to come down to training at the Rydings on Friday nights to the club’s floodlight 3G to see if they enjoy it as girls football continues to grow nationally and locally. Week by week new girls are joining Langho FC which is great to see; all with smiles on their faces.
