At the start of half term Langho U12 girls travelled over to Fleetwood Town to play their Sharks team. On this bitterly cold and windy Sunday, the girls came out 6-1 winners after a hat trick from Molly, 2 from Jade and a goal for Eva. Well done girls as the team continue to cement their second place in the North Valley and Burnley U12 girls Blue league.
The U12 girls faced Pendle Forest in the first round of the League Cup at home at The Rydings. Langho were under pressure from the whistle and struggled to find their rhythm and normally characteristic passing. Aleasia came off with an injury, Ellie on and Anabelle made her debut for the team. The girls defended doggedly, including with Amber even heading, Charlotte W making tackles and Emily making several brave saves; so Forest remained frustrated. The home team found their form towards the end of the half and started to threaten, but the score remained goalless at the break.
Langho U12 Girls Celebration dive
After the whistle Eva put Langho ahead, but the girls conceded after a mistake from a restart. The game was more finely balanced and both teams threatened. Heather and Charlotte J made some good runs down the opposite wings and Ellie had a couple of shots from distance. Lillie forced a save from the Forest keeper off a free kick after clearing the wall and Jade continued to threaten but still the score was 1-1 at full time.
So on to two halves of 7minutes of extra time. Langho came out on fire and found their fluid passing. Charlotte J made a pass to Jade who buried the shot as the girls surged down the hill. After the turnaround the girls continued to look dangerous. Aleasia had a looping top corner shot saved but Pendle equalised in the dying minutes. As nails were gnawed to the bone, a run and perfect pass from Charlotte J saw Jade pick the ball up and bury the winner 3-2: Phew!
A gripping game to watch and even better with a pint in hand with the clubhouse open! Well played girls – Onwards into the final 8 (quarter finals). Thanks to the coaches Jason and Ste as well as the volunteers running the tuckshop and bar.
A team of 14 Langho U12 girls travelled through the Sunday morning fog to the always welcoming St Annes. Early on there were chances at both ends and Emily cleared some danger. Persistence paid off for Jade as the home team keeper fumbled and Jade put Langho ahead. Charlotte J picked up a loose ball on the left but the keeper deflected the shot off to the left of the upright. With Eva, Charlotte and Jade off, on came Molly, Heather and Evie. A golden chance for Molly was put wide as she pushed it onto her favoured left just giving enough time to St Annes to recover, but minutes later her speed put the ball on her left and she made it 0-2. Aleasia battled for the ball supporting defence as the home team right hand side was strong as they connected some well-placed passes and crosses. A cross the other end saw Issy make it 3, then St Annes finally pulled one back from the right. Just before the break Issy hit the post and the shot was scrambled away.
In the second half Charlotte W went in the net and put in some confident kicks and saves, the team was rotated again and Molly scored a real scorcher from distance to make the final score 1-4 and confirm the U12 girls second place in the league. Well done again!
Today’s Langho U12 girls’ game at the Rydings saw the team take on the might of league leaders and to date unbeaten Fleetwood Town – Anchors.
Coaches and Langho U12 girls vs Fleetwood Anchors
Langho kicked off downhill and although a little nervy started for find some shape even with unusually 4 playing across the back. To the crowd’s astonishment Langho took the lead with a good goal from Issy. Molly and Sanya featured strongly and the home team won a series of corners. The defence held out with dogged efforts from Aleasia, Charlotte J, Heather, Ellie and Francesca as the subs rolled on and off across most of the park. Molly then scored her first. A corner the other end saw Sanya brilliantly clear a ball off the line and again Langho retorted with several shots but they went wide of the posts including one from Eva.
Shortly after Jason’s team talk at the break, the match was off again. Langho remained in the ascendancy. The U12 strung some lovely passes together and Molly pulled the ball round a defender and smashed in the team’s third. A Fleetwood break saw a shot wide of the left post. Another attack from the visitors led to Emily save well with her feet. Lots of tussles in the middle of the park saw Lillie and Charlotte W and other block and hack balls away as the opposition fought back. A Langho corner was saved then a break saw Fleetwood make it 3-1. They had the ball in the net again only to be ruled well offside and as the nervy minutes ticked by they made it 3-2. Langho fought on and to the relief of the crowd of onlookers the whistle went.
So another nail biter for the U12girls, but brilliantly played against a side seemingly like giants to many of the smaller in stature Langho team. Molly got man-of-the-match after a great performance. This result meant not only have Langho smashed the unbeaten record, but they have now managed to get wins against all of the teams in the league! Roll on 2017…..
A lovely clear morning at Nelson Cricket club ground saw the Langho U12 girls take on Pendle Forest. With the clubhouse open and plastic seating what more could the enthusiastic Langho parents ask for? Langho started strongly with some excellent passing against Pendle’s stronger kicking. A pinball session around the goalmouth saw Eva opening the scoring somehow? Aleasia’s goal that followed was an unstoppable corker launched from outside the box. Langho ran their luck in defence, before a great pass from Molly to Lillie saw her bring up 3-0. Langho’s luck finally ran out as the home team pulled one back before halftime.
After the restart Langho continued to battle but the home team clawed their way back to 2-3, then 3-3 and they even came close to taking the lead as the crowd started to feel defeat looming from the jaws of victory. But in the girls bit back in the last 5 minutes with a second goal from Lillie surgically following in the rebound from Charlotte’s shot and then a final shout from the girls in the dying seconds as Charlotte J put the ball in the bottom corner for 3-5.
A great game to watch again for the U12 girls with Molly voted man-of-the-match for Langho. The result brought the girls equal second on points in the league. Well done girls and smiles all round as usual.
Today the Langho U13 took on Cadley at home at Northcote over lunchtime today with Juliet making her debut. She marked this with her first goal for the team and despite lots of effort and impressively clawed their way back from 3-0 down to commendably lose 4-2.
The Langho U12 girls played St Annes at home at the Rydings. Despite a warm-up thumb injury to Emily ruling her out of playing in net, the team surged to a 6-3 win making 4 wins and 2 losses this season and an even happier Jason! This is a great team with buckets of team spirit across the squad.
The Langho U10 girls were away at Cadley and marked the occasion with their first match goal of the season by Keisha and prompted and explosion of joy over the parents’ WhatsApp! Well done girls!
New girls continue to come down to training at the Rydings on Friday nights to the club’s floodlight 3G to see if they enjoy it as girls football continues to grow nationally and locally. Week by week new girls are joining Langho FC which is great to see; all with smiles on their faces.
A bright but really early start in Fulwood for the Langho U12 girls at Cadley this Sunday. A nice welcome from the home parents, then from the whistle we saw Cadley make the first attack. Jade pulled Langho ahead and then doubled the lead a while later. Both Cadley’s keeper and Charlotte W were kept busy in the nets at either end. She made a vital clearance as the ball was loose at the edge of the box. More cut and thrust from both teams, then the home team pulled one back then equalised for 2-2. Jade’s cross was narrowly put narrowly wide from the edge of the Cadley box by Eva. Jade reached her hat-trick from a surging break, before it was all square again as the Langho defence were feeling the effects of a birthday sleepover! Jade then converted another for a 4-3 lead at the break.
Most of Langho U12 girls before a corker of a match at Cadley
Fired up by a round of Smarties and with a change of keeper to Emily the girls sprang into action again. Issy chipped Langho into a 5-3 lead, before Cadley clawed back another 2 making it 5-5. There seemed to be no end to the twists and turns of this thrilling game. Charlotte J had a shot saved, but Jade hungrily buried the rebound. Emily made a crucial save with her knees in a 1 on 1, then Jade racked up her sixth for 7-5. Could this be the end? – Oh no! 7-6 then 7-7 as Cadley fought back again. ‘They think its all over…. It is now’ as Lillie made it 8-7 to Langho in the dying minutes.
Again battling performances from Aleasia and Charlotte J plus several piecing runs and crucial saving tackles from Heather with Fran making some timely clearances too. This was an amazing match to watch; with a score line like watching a Wimbledon tiebreak. Well done girls!
After 2 wins and a loss for Langho U12 girls, Pendle Forest visited the Rydings on Sunday afternoon. The team welcomed Evie D for her first game. Langho won the toss and elected to play up the Eiger first. The game started pretty end to end and both teams had shots. Emily made some saves and Aleasia was solid in front of defence again. Pendle seemed to have the edge backing one and other up and broke the deadlock before the break. Langho had a range of shots including a long range effort from Evie.
The second half saw Charlotte W go into the net and she put in a couple of saves and some very solid goal kicks. Despite the girls conceding a second goal their heads did not drop. Heather, Charlotte J and Jade ran at the opposition and Lillie, Issy as well as Jade had a good chances saved as Langho continued to press and win corners. In fact Langho had the bulk of the shots over the game, but the Pendle defensive 4 held well, cleared several desperate goal mouth scrambles and their keeper was really on form.
Today was just not the U12s day; perhaps feeling a little rattled after last week’s ‘experience’. The girls were smiling as usual whatever the result. Well done girls. So the season rolls on to Cadley away next Sunday.
After last Sunday’s opener with a 6-2 away win at Fleetwood Town, the Langho U12 girls were away on Wednesday night at Pendle Forest for their second 9v9 game. Pendle proved strong and dangerous with some powerful shooting taking at 2-0 lead until a pass from Charlotte saw an ever determined Jade pull one back before the break. Langho got stronger as the match progressed and Ellie defended well with support from Fran and later Amber. Emily made some brave saves in goal and put in plenty of decent drop kicks. Aleasia stood out battling in defence, assisting with goal kicks, tackling and she pushed forward too with Issy, Eva, Lillie, Charlotte and Jade.
After Jason’s half time team talk the girls were off again and as the game progressed the girls strung together some great passes, movement and some decent runs even hitting the opposition on the break. A corner from Jade after an attempt to clear from Pendle was volleyed home by Charlotte for 2-2 and we all stood on the side lines amazed at the comeback. Heather made some good runs helping the team push forward and the midfield played their part keeping the opposition out, brilliantly assisted by Aleasia’s head by the side-lines. Just when the parents would have settled for a draw, up steps Jade with a lob and what turned out to be the winner for Langho 2-3.
Charlotte was awarded man-of-the-match, but this was a superb performance across the whole team against a very strong team. Well done to the new and experience players ….And not a cartwheel in sight! Lots of chatting, but that’s allowed in this friendly smiley team. All topped off by a beautiful orange sunset.
