G-Force!
Playing the league leaders was always going to be a big ‘ask’, this was made harder as we played on the unfamiliar surface of a 3G (hence G-force!) artificial grass pitch. This pitch proved to be an excellent playing surface and I can see the benefits of this given the poor winter weather, and as a mum who washes lots of kits it is nice not to have to contend with a washing machine full of mud and grass! The 3G surface caused our lads some problems in anticipating the speed and run of the ball. Fulledge, who use this surface regularly, were clearly better able to cope. Having said that, Fulledge are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the league, playing skilful positive football right from the start. We felt we had a pretty decent first half, managing to contain them to a 3 nil lead. The second half was a different story – we might have to consider breaking out the Jaffa cakes (a la under 8’s) for the half time team talk! We conceded 6 goals, including one own goal and one penalty, which had to be taken twice. Daniel kept his nerve and was a fingertip from saving the first shot and a toe tip from saving the second.
It’s getting really boring but all I can say is – a typical Langho under 9 performance. We play Fulledge twice in the next three weeks so lets hope that Langho can gain some advantage by playing on the grass pitch at the Rydings (although Fulledge have offered to book the 3G!)
