Under 7s at Gregson Lane & Langho Tournaments

A few photos of the Under 7s at the Gregson Lane Tournament and Langho’s own event held last weekend. Well done to ‘Langho 2′ at Gregson Lane who not only won the derby match against ‘Langho 1′ but also held out for a 0-0 draw against a strong side fielded by the hosts.
A pat on the back too for the team at Langho’s tournament who adapted quickly to next year’s new goal kick rule and fought out some very close games. Follow the link below for more photos

Under 7s: Mill Hill 2 - 4 Langho

Ryan’s flying high for Langho!

For the second time in consecutive games, Ryan Thomas took over between the sticks at half time, kept a clean sheet and provided the foundation for a Langho victory.

The boys started the game at a fast pace… they must have… we were a goal up before I managed to take position on the far touchline. Langho quickly worked the ball into the Mill Hill area with Josh, Cal, Sharky and Jasper all snapping around the defenders’ heels. The Mill Hill keeper tried to kick the ball clear only to see it ricochet off Josh’s shins into the back of the net – they all count Josh, one-nil up! Mill Hill enjoyed a period of good play but a great tackle from Sharky followed by his dribble into the opposition half gave the boys at the back some respite. Two minutes later though and we gave the ball away cheaply just outside the box allowing Mill Hill to level with a good shot from fifteen yards. Langho pressure followed and Jasper now tried to force the game in the blue and red’s favour, dribbling the ball half the length of the pitch only to see his shot blocked by a solid defence. We possibly committed too many players forward at times and Ryan found himself alone with two attackers bearing down on goal. Ryan got a little caught between the two and Mill Hill grabbed their chance to take the lead. Louis produced some fine saves at the end of the half to keep Langho in touch with the home side, at one time tipping the ball just round the post for a corner. Under 7s: Langho 6 - 3 Blue Star

Cap’n Jasper steers Langho to victory!

Jasper Griffin put in a great captain’s performance as he inspired Langho to a six – three victory over a much improved Blue Star team.

The start of the game almost knocked the wind out of the home side’s sails as Blue Star’s MOM, James Joseph, saw his speculative twenty yard plus effort fly into the back of the net after just thirty seconds. To make matters worse the away team were two to the good just moments later. Thankfully the team coped with the pressure much better then their manager and while I was a gibbering wreck on the sidelines, Jasper collected the ball and neatly wove an intricate path around the Blue Star defence before halving the deficit with a great shot. Cal seemed unimpressed by Jasper’s antics and almost as if to prove a point, won the ball straight from the kick off and performed his own mazey run to coolly finish and draw Langho level. Under 7s: Darwen Rangers 6 – 3 Langho

Darwen’s defence keeps Langho out of range.

Darwen Rangers put together an impressive team defensive display which gave them the edge in a game which was much closer than the scoreline at first suggests. Continue reading Under 7s: Darwen Rangers 6 – 3 Langho

Under 7s: Langho 5 – 5 Mill Hill

Seed’s late bloom sees Langho level.

Joshua Seed scored his first two goals for the team right at the end of the game to make sure Langho shared the honours with Mill Hill in a ten goal thriller. Continue reading Under 7s: Langho 5 – 5 Mill Hill

Under 7s: Blue Star 2 – 9 Langho

Gold Star performance by Cal sinks Blue Star

Callum Walsh scored five goals to cap off his third consecutive man of the match performance as Langho put in a solid display against Blue Star. The pre-mach team talk had concentrated on passing and supporting the man in possession of the ball. The words hadn’t fallen on deaf ears as Langho looked to move the ball around whenever possible from the first whistle to the last. Maybe it wasn’t quite like watching Brazil but it was certainly something a little warmer than a cold and wet Witton Park. Continue reading Under 7s: Blue Star 2 – 9 Langho
