This was one of the best ever performances by the U13′s and a superb hard fought win.
The first half started with Langho on top for the first 20 mins, and took the lead when Zak chased down a seemingly lost cause, eventually winning the ball of a defender and sliding the ball home before the keeper could get to it. He added a second soon after following a brilliant left foot through-ball from James Blow. The last 15 mins saw Huncoat getting on top, pulling 1 back following a corner, then a lucky equaliser after the ball riquoched off ribby, the bar and Liam before dropping over the line.
The second half was far tighter with few chances. This was mainly due to Jake and Robbie protecting the superb back 4, marshalled by Pat. the only chance Huncoat had was well saved by Liam, low down to his right. The Langho chances were coming from through-balls from the midfield where Billy and Charlie were breaking to support the front 2. Deservedly Zak completed his hat-trick with 15 mins to go, and Langho held on for a close win.
Thankfully there were no penalty dilemma’s this week with nothing but smiles and exhaustion at the end! Its the reverse fixture on Tuesday night where we will have to be at our best again as we have a few players out, but if all the squad play like they can, we can hopefully get another 3 points.
A great start to the season saw the U13’s win 3 – 0 against Accy Stanley (sorry, should that be Mill Hill?!). We were a little surprised the game was on at Pleckgate swamplands, but the pitch was fine apart from the length of the grass – we nearly lost Sam and Joe in the undergrowth at the top end of the penalty area.
As soon as the match started it was clear that Mill Hill couldn’t cope with the pace of our attack – ably supported by the midfield constantly winning the ball first. Ribby was revelling in his new found freedom down the right wing and was supporting at every opportunity. Pat, Will, Ribby and Dec coped with all Mill Hill could throw at them at the back. Zak was unstoppable up front, and finally broke the deadlock from a tight angle on the left, and it was no more than we deserved – we added another through James Blow before half time as well as hitting the woodwork 3 times. The other highlight was Zak volleying the ball back directly from a goal-kick 30 yards out, just missing the left hand post.
The second half was much the same story, with us continually on the attack but failing to convert the chances. After a blatant push in the penalty box we won a penalty which James unfortunately passed back straight to the keeper, Zak did exactly the same 15 minutes later, but did manage a second towards the end of the half. Chris pulled off a brilliant save to deny their centre forward scoring and managed to injure 2 of their players pouncing on the rebound.
Thankfully it was all smiles at the end with all the talk about who could take the next penalty!
Some confusion over man of the match ensued, with the Mill Hill manager giving it to James “Whippet” Blow, their assistant gave it Pat “Beckenbauer” Fordham, and Colin and myself to Zak “Duracell” Dardouri.
All in all it was a great team performance, with everyone playing their part – Roll on Huncoat on Sunday!
